Back like they never left
At Dejond Metals, we take pride in our people. And sometimes… they come back! Koen, Dimitri, and Ken all worked with us before, ventured out into the world, and eventually returned to their familiar spot. Why? The atmosphere, the colleagues, the openness – in short: the feeling of coming home.
Koen Vermant (customer service – accounting) started his career as an accounting intern in 2003. What began as a temporary job turned into a close connection lasting nearly 20 years. After a brief, challenging detour, he returned in early 2025. “It felt like I never really left”, he says. “The work atmosphere, the teamwork, and especially the new energy... it’s refreshing.”
Dimitri Luyten (sales engineer) has a similar story. He worked with us from 1998 to 2021, and returned in 2024 after a short break. “Our director Bart asked me if I wanted to work together again. I didn’t have to think long about it. I immediately saw new opportunities. It felt familiar right away. We’ve been through a period of change, and today we’re in a very strong position. Our focus on value-added metals as a local player is being positively received, and our offerings for green roofs and the Forster profiles are a success. This is a strategy I want to continue supporting in the future.”
For Ken Frans (assistant team leader), all roads also led back to Dejond Metals. He worked here from 2017 to 2018, explored the social sector, but stayed in touch with his former colleagues. “I couldn’t shake the feeling,” he says. “That family vibe at every level, the freedom to be creative, being able to walk into the director’s office without any barriers... that’s rare. When I got the chance to return in 2024, I jumped at it.”
What unites them? Team spirit, open communication, shared humor, and passion for the job. Or as Koen puts it beautifully: “We feel appreciated here as key assets. We build sustainable relationships – with customers, suppliers, and each other. The company culture is everything. And well, it’s also great that our workplace is getting a makeover – come and see very soon.” Sometimes, you have to take a detour to realize where you truly belong.
Hi colleague Luca!
Welcome to Dejond Metals. Tell us about your recent start with us…
"Since January 2025, I have been working here as a buyer and distribution planner. I was already active in the steel industry, but I was looking for a new challenge. I kept seeing posts and job openings from Dejond Metals. At first, I didn’t do anything about it, but when you kept appearing on my radar, I thought: why not take a chance? And so I did. In fact, there wasn’t a vacant position for a buyer, only for sales support. Still, I was invited for an interview - then another - because you indicated that I was a good match for the company. It was remarkable that you looked at my talents and offered me a job that suited me. I’m now in the onboarding phase. There’s a lot of information to take in, but I’m receiving excellent guidance, and I’m ready for this challenge. Thank you for all the opportunities."

Abdelhakim and Rafal share their experiences
At the end of 2024, we had the pleasure of welcoming 2 new colleagues to our Metal Service Center: Abdelhakim and Rafal. They bring with them 21 and 10 years of experience in the metal industry, respectively.
Abdelhakim: "Dejond Metals was at the top of my list of potential employers where I wanted to take my chance. A well-known company in the region and the sector, that’s where I wanted to work. And here I am – it worked out! I will do everything I can to succeed together. Remarkably, there was only one position available, yet both Rafal and I were hired. Because the work is there, and they wanted to give both of us the opportunity."
Rafal: "I already knew the company, and the workplace and colleagues appealed to me. What I find particularly interesting is that I get to work with more than one machine and continue learning. Thoughtful production planning is crucial, and it motivates me to optimize not just our products but also our processes."
Welcome, Abdelhakim and Rafal!
Frieda and Rita, 25 and 35 years of service!
Curious about what brought them to us and made them stay so long?
Frieda: "After my studies bilingual secretary and 14 years in the tea business, I joined Dejond. It was convenient to have such a large and solid company just around the corner, especially with the increasing traffic jams at the time. After two interviews, it was settled, and I started as a sales support employee. A job I thoroughly enjoyed for 25 years. I’ll retire at the end of 2025. I remember that in the early years, people found it strange that I worked in the metals industry. For many, metals lack appeal. But I have to say, once I got to know the material, it became increasingly fascinating. I experienced a lot of job satisfaction in a pleasant work environment with great colleagues. We’ve evolved into a modern company, where you enjoy a lot of freedom in your job and where you’re appreciated."
Rita: "I wanted to teach with my degree in Germanic languages, but at the start of my career, there was an oversupply of teachers. Finding work wasn’t easy. Then, I happened to be at a reception with my sister, and it was there that I made my first contacts for a job at Dejond. I was hired immediately and started in the sales department for copper. At first, I also thought: a bar of brass, what’s so exciting about that? It didn’t feel like my thing, but that changed quickly. Today, I can say that my heart is full of copper and alloys – such a beautiful material. I progressed to become product manager for the copper division, and today I’m the division manager of metals. I still have 6 years to go, and I’m happy to give my full 200% commitment. The flat structure, the high degree of independence, the trust – these are all reasons why I would recommend young talent to come and work with us. Yes, metals and Dejond Metals are definitely sexy and attractive!"
